Tour Info 2017

Dear all, It is with some sadness that we write the following blog post. We have decided, with regret, not to run a Music Tour in February half term 2017. We have debated the decision for some time, but for family reasons, this time around, it is not viable to run a school trip outside of term time. We know lots of you will be disappointed by this decision, especially those of you in Years 11 and 12, who may not get the opportunity to go on another tour. We are looking into the possibility of alternative musical events during 2017, and we will keep you updated. Once again, we are very sorry that we are not running a February tour next year. We hope you will understand why we have come to our decision. We love you all, Mr Guinane and Ms Doan xx

Exploring Serialism, and modern music

Ok folks, Modern music is hard to grasp, but the more you read about the stories and motivations behind its proponents, the more sense it makes. There are a lot of resources at your fingertips that will help: Books in the Beaumont library: The following books are either in, or on their way to, Beaumont's library. Have a read of the relevant chapters/sections in the following books: Alex Ross - The Rest is Noise: Listening to the Twentieth Century (big, but quite easy to read) Paul Griffiths - Modern Music (the best book on early C20th classical music) Paul Griffiths - Modern Music and after (the follow-up, covering the 2nd half of the 20th Century) Norman Lebrecht - The Complete Companion to 20th Century Music (I haven't read this, but will check it out) Arnold Whittal - Serialism (Cambridge Introductions to Music) (pretty obvious what this is about) Grove Music Online Use your Herts library card to log in to Grove, the BEST online Music encyclopaedia. AS and A2 Performances Spring 2016

As you know, your AS and A2 Performances are coming up soon.  The date of your official recording is: Wednesday 2nd March 2016 We will come up with a timetable on the day, according to when is best for you, but please be aware that you will probably have to leave lessons and that your performance exam will take priority on this day.   We have booked Dr Winter as your accompanist. You will be able to rehearse with him beforehand in the weeks leading up to this. If you would prefer to have your own accompanist, you must organise yourselves and ensure that you pay them appropriately. If you would like to do a "practice recital", please organise that directly with your teacher and Mr Guinane or Ms Doan. Year 12 : click on the link here , which will take you to an information sheet which you need to complete. Please save it as your own Google doc and return to Mr Guinane via email by 29th January 2016  - Beaumont.Music@Beaumont.herts.sch.uk Year 13: Your doc
